Below University Math Level?
I am a incoming freshman in a private california college. I received my placement test results from the college I am attending for Fall of 2009. It said I was placed in Intermediate math 35 (two levels below general math) I am pretty bummed out. Math has been my worst subject in school since I stepped into Preschool, so I was expecting that. But still, how bad of a situation will I be in?
1. Am I behind from everyone else before I even start? How do I catch up?
2. Will I graduate later because I need to pass those classes first?
3. Will the grades under general ed show up on my transcript?
What am I going to do? I don’t have time this summer to take City College math courses…
Ps. I am in computer science major but I will be changing it to business later on.

You will not be behind everyone else. When I started college, my friends and I started at very different math levels, ranging from whatever class is before pre-calculus to calculus 2. It honestly does not matter. It might take you a few extra semesters to finish all of your math requirements, but I highly doubt you’ll graduate later because of it. Instead of only doing one year of math, you might have to do two or three.
You definitely won’t be the only one there! This past semester, my RA (who is a fifth year student) was in the same pre-calc class as one of my freshman friends. Your class will be filled with all sorts of people.
All of your grades show up on your transcript though, even general education, so make sure you really study hard for this class! Find out if your school has a tutoring session for math. It’ll help you out a lot.

Im assuming things aren’t too much different from where i go to school. I also didn’t have to score I needed in math in order to be able to take college level math so I had to take an intermediate math course for my first semester. Its zero-level which means you don’t get any credit for it but you have to pass it in order to move on. You won’t be the only one I guarantee you! My class was surprisingly full! You won’t be behind and you won’t have to graduate later because of it. It will show up on your transcript but it won’t count for anything because its zero-level. Hopefully i’ve helped you and not confused you lol!
